County of Santa Clara Increases Free COVID-19 Testing Access, Open to All

County of Santa Clara Increases Access to Free COVID-19 Testing with Six Pop-up Sites in Cupertino, Los Altos, Palo Alto, and San José.

Santa Clara County, CA – From June 16 through June 20, the County of Santa Clara is offering six COVID-19 pop-up testing sites in Cupertino, Los Altos, Palo Alto and San José.

Testing can identify COVID-19 before a person feels unwell or before they spread it to another individual with potentially deadly consequences.  Since late May, to increase access to testing, the County Health System has been offering diagnostic COVID-19 testing through pop-up locations around the community.  This week the number of sites is expanding to six locations.  Testing at all of these sites is available free of charge without an appointment, insurance, or a doctor’s note, and regardless of immigration status.

“Our strategy is to bring testing to our residents in Santa Clara County and make it as easy as possible,” said Cindy Chavez, President of the Board of Supervisors in the County of Santa Clara.  “Please take advantage of this opportunity to get tested in your neighborhood; it’s fast and safe and you don’t need insurance.”

“Getting tested not only protects you, your family, and those you care about, it also provides valuable information to help inform our Public Health Officer as she makes critical decisions about when and how to reopen safely,” said County Supervisor Joe Simitian.

Although every Santa Clara County resident can now get a free nasal swab test, these pop-up locations are most appropriate for asymptomatic individuals who are at higher risk because they work in frontline settings or because they’ve had significant interaction with members of the public.  This includes grocery store clerks, construction workers, retail associates, first responders, and other workers, as well as individuals who regularly ride public transit or have recently attended a mass gathering.

For individuals experiencing symptoms or who have come into close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19, the Public Health Department strongly recommends getting tested by calling a doctor or scheduling an appointment through one of the community based drive through sites.  Residents can find a testing location near them at sccfreetest.org or by calling 2-1-1.
